Brasstongue Naris

Naris is an 18 year-old Dragonborn Paladin. He was born in the mountains north of Khine. He is a member of the Brasstongue Clan of Dragonborn nomads.

For the first three years of his life, he was cared for by both his mother Belrina and father Yaxal. At the age of three, his parents separated in accordance with clan tradition, and he lived with his father Yaxal.

Though he was raised primarily by his father between the ages of 3 and 15, in truth the entire clan participated in his upbringing. This was particularly fortunate for Naris, because he showed little of his father's aptitude for fanciful storytelling. Naris could recite stories with accuracy, but entirely lacked any of his father's artistic flourish, and more than that - he lacked any form of subtlety.

The Brasstongue clan is well-known for its charismatic leaders. Though nomadic and spend most of their time traveling, their system of government is based around which of their clan is best at telling stories, which has resulted in leaders who are able to establish diplomatic relations with the cities and towns on their nomadic routes.

Naris found that he was extremely blunt compared to his peers, who all showed at least some of the delicacy and “artistic liberty” (ability to lie) that went hand-in-hand with the Brasstongue penchant for fanciful storytelling.

Given this weakness, Naris decided that the best way for him to come up with a good story for himself was to become an adventurer and achieve a level of glory that needed no embellishment. Ever member of his clan was trained in the use of simple weapons starting at a young age, but few chose to specialize in fighting. Thankfully, there were several elder members of his clan who had been adventurers starting at age 13. These elders guided him towards the path of a paladin, though by the time he reached adulthood at age 15, he hadn't yet sworn his oath.

When he turned 15, he left his clan in search of his true calling. At the time, he had a simple set of chain mail armour and a halberd. Before long, he found an order of knights who claimed to be working for the greater good, but were sworn to secrecy until he was inducted into their order. Naris tried and failed to join their order, and left in disgrace.

Naris wandered the land searching for some way to redeem himself, and when he was 16 he met Wes and started doing jobs for Legitimate Enterprises. On his 17th birthday, he visited his clan and his sister Gixid gave him a suit of Adamantine Plate.

Wes sent Naris out to recon to see if he could determine which direction the casters/knights went. On his return, he found misfortune within the tunnels and was trapped in a giant spider's web. Thankfully, Nikolah freed him and, along with Nikolah's group, escaped the tunnels beneath Kalis.

Naris met up with Wes again to report his findings, at which point Wes told him to accompany Nikolah's group to Telina, which is where they expect the casters were taken. Ielenia and Nikolah think the casters were taken as slaves, since slavery is legal in Telina.

Before Naris' meeting with Wes, he saw Ielenia being accompanied home by Bernec. Having been part of Legitimate Enterprises for a couple years at this point, Naris recognized Wes' brother. Questioning Ielenia later revealed that he was simply walking her home.

At Nikolah's house, Naris met Vella, a tattooed woman who seemed tired and confused, who showed him several drawings that Nikolah seemed to take very seriously. Naris confronted Nikolah about why he was taking the drawings so seriously, and Nikolah took Naris aside to explain that Vella had drawn monsters attacking Kalis that their group had actually seen. Naris remained skeptical, not having seen the monsters for himself.

During the interaction about Vella, Nikolah was particularly flustered. Later at the Legitimate Enterprises pub, Naris asked Ielenia about it. Ielenia explained that Nikolah was never flustered like that. Also Ielenia always seems to be flustered around Nikolah. Naris' hypothesis is that Nikolah has been flustered since Naris' appearance because Nikolah is enamoured with Naris. Similarly, he thinks Ielenia is enamoured with Nikolah.

After his discussion with Ielenia, Naris left the L.E. pub to wander the streets of Kalis.
