Telina

Torn asunder in recent years by political turmoil, the city of Telina has recently come under control of a shadowy conglomerate of thieves, cutthroats, and other such unsavory types. Originally a duchy under vassalage to Kalis, a recent peasant revolt left hundreds in the city dead, and the local militia undermanned and nigh powerless to stop the underbelly of the city to rise up and take over. They are currently in negotiations with the King of Kalis to return the city to him, but talks have stalled as the guilds in charge have realized just how profitable it is to own an entire city. The formerly banned slave trade now thrives in Telina, many of it’s victims coming from all parts of the world, brought to stage by cruel slavemongers, eager to turn a quick profit in the unruly city.

Slavery Culture

Since slavery is accepted in Telina, there is a well-understood code to slave collars. An owned slave will have a tag with the insignia of their owner on one side, and their name or number on the other. The colour of a collar denotes the slave's purpose:

  • Labor:
    • Green (agriculture)
    • Gray (skilled)
  • Entertainment:
    • Yellow (musical)
    • Orange (dance)
  • Sexual:
    • Pink (low level)
    • Red (mid level)
    • Purple (high level)
  • For Sale:
    • Black
  • Play:
    • Brown
  • Fighters
    • Blue (notches distinguish level of skill; highly skilled might be pulled from the pits to serve as personal guards.)

Colours may be combined. For example, purple and yellow means a high-level sexual slave with musical training. A yellow and red collar might indicate that the slave is used more for entertainment than the bedroom but the owner is willing to slide on that.

Notable People

The aristocratic courts of Telina were once held in extremely high regard, second only to the royal courts of Kalis. After the peasant revolt, several of the local families were publicly executed, most fled the city, and the ones who left were known to have unofficially collaborated with the revolutionaries but publicly deny it.

  • Emir Elemendre Hennad, a recent inheritor to a thriving textile operation in Catalajara
  • Baroness Jichulle Meadowbrow, visiting heiress of a fish business based in Calinth
  • Baron Jushim Duhorus, heir to a wealth generated by the lucrative local forestry business
  • Mayor, only recently a member of the Telina social scene since the revolution, but as the revolt continues, this person is being considered an important social player because of their power over the city.
  • Lord Pernier Esqucon, heir to the Esqucon estate, whose slaves fill the city's fighting pits.
  • Stolas Farrowbrook, Master of the Farrowbrook estate, whose exotic and skilled slaves are highly valued among the aristocrats and wealthy families of Tribel. He is generally considered to be a highly-skilled social player held on roughly equal standing to a Lord, who has attended social functions on behalf of the Farrowbrook estate for over a century.
  • Earl Frendhin, a local aristocrat who, as rumour has it, has recently taken a new mistress. Rumour also has it that his wife is pregnant with a servant's child.
  • Marquess Bygrave, widely known to love his companion as much as or perhaps more than his wife.
